The EMG Nexus Dialogue on Sustainable Recovery through Sustainable Fashion: A Focus on the Environmental Dimensions, held on 7 September 2021, explored how the UN system could support a more sustainable, circular and resilient fashion sector in the context of recovery from COVID-19.

Organized by the EMG in collaboration with the UN Alliance for Sustainable Fashion, UNCTAD, UNEP, UNECE, UNESCO, UNFCCC and ILO, the Dialogue focused on the environmental dimensions of the fashion value chain, including product design, resource and material use, decarbonization, waste management and end-of-life solutions.

Participants exchanged experiences on ongoing UN initiatives, emerging challenges and capacity gaps, with particular attention to opportunities for circularity and a just transition. The discussion considered both practical opportunities for peer learning across UN entities and the broader role of the UN system in supporting the fashion industry towards more sustainable production and consumption patterns, greater resilience and improved social and environmental outcomes.
