The EMG fosters dialogue, collaboration, strategic thinking, and information sharing among UN entities to ensure a cohesive approach in supporting Member States with the implementation of Multilateral Environmental Agreements and the environmental dimensions of the 2030 Agenda, while also reinforcing environmental sustainability across the UN system.
The EMG coordinates collaboration among UN entities through time-bound interagency working groups, each dedicated to specific environmental issues. Currently, three operational groups focus on biodiversity, pollution, and the intersection of human rights and the environment.
The EMG Nexus Dialogues bring together experts from a diverse set of organizations, sectors, and disciplines to explore responses and solutions to emerging and ongoing cross-cutting issues on the environmental agenda.
The EMG has been instrumental in shaping the UN system's corporate environmental sustainability agenda, helping its members integrate environmental sustainability into their policies, programs, and management practices.
Since its establishment in 2001, the EMG has coordinated and successfully concluded numerous interagency collaborations, strengthening the coherence and effectiveness of the UN system's support to Member States on environmental issues.
