The EMG Nexus Dialogues bring together experts from UN entities to discuss emerging, urgent, and persistent cross-cutting environmental issues. They also provide a platform for the UN system to engage with external stakeholders, incorporating diverse perspectives and approaches to the conversation.

The dialogues aim to:

  • Deepen collective understanding of a specific environmental issue.
  • Investigate the interconnections between the environment and broader global agenda topics.
  • Assess the need for, or effectiveness of, management responses.
  • Elevate the value of integrating environmental perspectives.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance policy coordination across the UN system.
  • Integrate environmental considerations related to the issue into UN organisations, policies, programmes, and operations.

The dialogues serve as stepping stones to harness the collective power of the UN system and external institutions to mobilise and support countries in addressing environmental challenges and often pave the way for system-wide approaches.

Organised on an ad-hoc basis, most dialogues are open to observers.

Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) requires strong coordination and collaboration across the UN system. The EMG Nexus Dialogues Visualisation Tool helps make these connections visible.

Users can create customized maps showing which EMG members are working on specific SDGs, where collaboration is already taking place, and how different SDGs and their targets are interconnected.

The tool offers an interactive way to explore existing partnerships, identify connections across areas of work, and better understand the links between different sustainable development priorities.
