The EMG, in collaboration with UNU-FLORES, organized the Nexus Dialogue on Food System Resilience through Integrated Natural Resource Management (INRM) on 7 June 2021 as an independent dialogue of the 2021 UN Food Systems Summit. The event explored how a more integrated approach to managing land, water, biodiversity and other natural resources could help build more resilient and sustainable food systems.

Participants from across the UN system, research institutions and partner organizations discussed the systemic challenges affecting food systems, including fragmented policies, weak science-policy links, capacity gaps and the need for stronger coordination across sectors and institutions. The Dialogue also highlighted lessons from practical initiatives on water scarcity, land degradation neutrality and sustainable agriculture.

The discussion identified several priorities for future action, including clearer guidance on INRM, stronger integration of nexus approaches into national planning and SDG implementation, long-term investment in resilient food systems, and closer interagency collaboration. Participants also called for a common policy and guidance framework to help countries align sustainable consumption and production with food system resilience.
